Aka: Disappointments, Stressors, and Unspeakable Joy…
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. - 3 John 1:4 (NIV)
So what happens when our children are not walking in Truth? If we are honest, our hearts are, at best… miserably disappointed. We quickly move to stress and worry, wondering how far their wanderings will go. If we know anything about sheep, we are aware that if they are cast, they are in danger of dying, belly up!
That’s when we remind ourselves that Jesus leaves the 99 to find that one cast sheep. (Matthew 18:12) That’s when we rely on the promises of God and entrust the souls of our beloved children to the ONLY ONE who can save them.
Deb is one such prodigal. She left our home too early; I was so angry at the father of her baby. Many years and wanderings later, after many disappointments and stressors over the condition of her heart, I am experiencing unspeakable joy. Yes, the seeds of God’s Word finally took root. Yes, she is walking with God and so is this man who made me so angry. Jamon calls me affectionately: Mama D. Ironically, they are now in a congregation pastored by a husband and wife we know very well. May was in our program with Deb over 25 years ago! Both of these women had their share of wanderings. Both of them have so much to give now. I am a blessed spiritual mama.
Our hope in sharing Deb’s blog is for other Aftercare Girls and prodigals, whether near or far, to be stirred up by her raw honesty. Maybe her testimony will bring some of them closer to home, to the Father, where they belong!
